How a Korean Couple Eloped in Porto — From The Yeatman Hotel to the Streets of Portugal

Without Stress , Without a Wedding Script

A Korean Couple’s Cinematic Session in Porto

Sunny and Kim flew from South Korea to Portugal for something most couples spend months planning — an elopement that felt truly like them. No ceremony, no guests, no timeline. Just a quiet morning at The Yeatman Hotel, followed by a raw and honest couple session through the streets of Porto.

We only had a few hours together, but in that short time we laughed, connected, and created something real.

They weren’t chasing perfection. They wanted a few photographs to remember Portugal — and the love they felt in that fleeting chapter. That’s exactly what we captured: in the light, the city textures, and those quiet corners that felt like their own little world.

A Connection Beyond Culture

Coming from different cultural backgrounds, there’s always a moment of adjustment — especially with couples who are naturally introverted or more reserved, like Sunny & Kim. In South Korean culture, public affection tends to be more subtle. I’m the opposite: warm, open, the hug-first type.

But somehow, without many words, we connected. Not just as a Portugal elopement photographer, but as someone they could trust. And when a couple lets you in — into their emotion, not just their schedule — that’s when the magic happens. That’s when the photos feel alive.

Analog + Digital = A Portrait of Presence

For this elopement shoot in Porto, I used both digital color and black-and-white analog film (Ilford 3200). There’s something timeless about film — especially when mixed with fleeting gestures and gritty city textures.

It became a visual portrait of presence. No ceremony, no wedding dress or guests — just two people in love, walking the streets of Portugal together.

Why Eloping in Portugal Just Works

Eloping in Portugal has become a dream for couples around the world. From coastal cliffs to medieval cities, Portugal offers light, beauty, intimacy, and soul. Whether you’re planning a symbolic elopement in Porto, an adventurous moment in the Azores, or a beach session in the Algarve — it just works.

It’s cinematic without effort.

It’s emotional without needing words.

And it’s yours, start to finish.

My Filmmaking Soul — Wong Kar-Wai Vibes

This session didn’t include video, but I always shoot with a filmmaker’s eye. One of my biggest inspirations is Wong Kar-Wai — the way he uses light, color, and silence has shaped how I tell stories. This session carried that same softness — that poetic in-between of stillness and motion.

Thinking of Eloping in Portugal?

Whether you’re dreaming of a cinematic elopement in Porto, a wild session in the Douro Valley, or a quiet beach moment in the Algarve, I’m here for it. I’m a Portugal wedding photographer and videographer — more than that, I’m someone who sees you for who you are and helps tell your story your way.
